Two pence pieces: are they all the same?Download twopees.dmw Histograms are easy to create in Datamass, this simple experiment shows you how to do it. Method: Choose a suitable recording range 0-10g would be sensible. Now use a 'Mass Only' recording - use the item on the measure menu or click on the bar chart button on the toolbar. Place each 2p coin on the balance in turn and click the record button. It will soon be obvious that there is a fair spread of masses. Since there is only one channel of data, a bar chart will be chosen automatically. This is not very helpful. Now click the histogram button, if you do not like the bar width then simply enter a new bar width in the text box in the histogram toolbar. When you save the data, this will be saved so that the same histogram will be drawn next time. Results: The data table is shown below:

The rate limiting step is doing the recording! Clearly there are other similar examples which could be tried. |
