Datadisc Pt - the new Datadisc family

At BETT 2003 Abington Partners launched the latest version of the widely used Datadisc software product range. Datadisc can now be used with the complete range of Philip Harris datalogging products from Blue Box  to the Catch & Keep and also the ScienceScope Logbook product range.

Please visit www.sciencescope.co.uk for purchasing options.

The Datadisc range now includes:

  • Datadisc Pt range incorporating:

Datadisc Pt for datalogging up to A level (screenshots)
Datadisc Explore for datalogging from KS2 to GCSE (screenshots)
Datadisc Graphpad for datalogging up to KS2 (screenshots)

  • Datamass for datalogging from balances alone

  • Datadisc Control Flowcharting control program for ICT and Design Technology from KS2 to GCSE

  • Datadisc Timing for measuring velocity and acceleration including ‘g’ by freefall

  • The latest version supports "plug and play" connections from USB devices as well as loggers connected via the ScienceScope Logbook USB lead. Now that computers can easily have more than 10 apparent serial ports to choose from it is much better to chose from a drop-down list of named devices as this version allows.

Note that Datadisc Pt includes Datadisc Explore and Datadisc GraphPad. Datadisc Explore includes Datadisc GraphPad.

New features introduced for Datadisc Ag

  • Simplified recording parameter choice (preserving access to the full settings available in previous versions)

  • Improved accuracy of maths routines

  • Support for new interfaces / sensors being introduced in 2002.

  • The graph offers an unrivalled choice of display styles

Tick marks "in" or "out" of the box

    Fraction style:

    parameter

Y axis numbering on side or upright Edit menus to remove unwanted items

Recently introduced features of Datadisc Ag

  • Comprehensive area under graph plotting and calculation via a cursor.

  • Function calculation with a user-written formula giving a complete calculation capability.

  • Spectrum analysis for waveform files.

  • User-adjusted straight line fit (for doing the "best straight line" by eye much as you used to on graph paper).

  • Duplicate channel facility.

  • Average channels facility.

  • Direct entry scaling – which allows easy expansion of scales.

  • “What's this” help is now provided – click the ? button and point to the item you want help on.

  • Opportunity to show more than one graph for a set of data - for alternative presentations.

  • Add labels to your graph.

  • Save recordings - have your favourite recordings set up at the click of a button.

  • Favourite files - organize short cuts to your files in the same way as Internet browsers.

New features introduced for Datadisc Explore

  • Graph style more closely follows ASE recommendations for 5 – 16 science. “Signs, Symbols & Systematics”

  • Sliders replaced with drop down boxes for recording choice.

  • Straight line fit. Adjust your own line for "best fit" to the experimental data and have it added to the graph.

  • Type in your own spreadsheet data so that Datadisc Explore's powerful graphing and analysis are easily available for experiments you don't do with sensors.

  • With the sound record option you can now collect up to 4 waveforms before you close the recording window.

  • Suitable for recording different instruments playing the same note or the same instrument playing different notes (no Datalogger required)
•The zoom button now produces a better, finer large graph.

  • Datadisc Explore can now calculate the average of two channels.

  • Tiled graphs can now be selected for data where time is not the X axis.

  • Duplicate channel allows you to make a copy of data, keeping the original, before you change it.

  • The timer button opens a new, simple and useful feature: a clock or stop-clock that reads to 0.1 second (if you want to). Choose analogue or digital display and carry out those pendulum experiments (and others) using Datadisc Explore (No Datalogger required)

Key additional features of Datadisc Graphpad

  • GraphPad is aimed at Key Stage 2 needs for data-logging and data analysis. It has an easy-to-use button-click style of operation which nevertheless offers much of the power of Datadisc Ag tailored to Primary science.

  • The GraphPad toolbar has a wealth of powerful features:
o The Menu group provides all the most used File and edit functions.
o The Logging group starts and stops a real-time recording or transfers remotely recorded data. A keyboard data entry button completes the set. You can set up the real-time recording parameters with the duration control.
o The Data view group allow easy switching between Meter display; Graph; Stop Clock; Data table and Control Window

  • Meter, one channel graph, table and clock.

  • Axis labels in suitable English – e.g. "Time in seconds"

  • Graph numbers printed upright

  • Grid lines kept "nearly square"

  • Large default font (size adjustable)

  • Predict the outcome of experiments

  • Simple visual control – use sensors to control the Logbook control output

Key features of Datadisc Control

  • Fully featured flow charting control program for use with either Logbook or Logbook SE

  • Control up to 6 output channels from both built in and add on sensors.

Key features of Datadisc Timing

  • Compatible with DL plus, CL50, CL200 and Logbook SE

  • Timing resolution better that 0.8ms (DL plus and Logbook SE) / 5ms (CL50 and CL200)

  • Measure speed, acceleration, kinetic energy and momentum with light gates

  • Works with either a plain or slotted card.
